Handling Briess Bags

When it comes to your bags of Briess Malt, we're with you. We don't want them to tear or break and spill malt all over the place any more than you do. That not only makes a mess, it's also a waste of perfectly great malt that should be going into your great beer!

To stop those bad things from happening, we'll share some bag handling tips we employ here at Briess. Pass these tips along to your staff and it'll keep you from having to cry over spilt malt!

Tip #1: When moving or handling bags of Briess malt (or other bagged ingredients from Briess), grasp and hold bags firmly by the sides or the ends (top photo).

Tip #2: Moving or handling bags by the “ears” at the top or bottom of the bags can cause them to tear or break (second photo).

Tip #3: Dropping or throwing bags can cause them to tear or break.

Tip #4: When re stacking or otherwise handling bags of Briess products, avoid sharp objects that could puncture or tear them.

Please report problems with Briess bags

We conduct strict quality control inspections throughout all facilities to assure all bags are properly sealed and free of tears prior to shipping. But issues may arise with packaging after it leaves our facilities. If this happens and you experience problems with Briess bags, please contact us immediately. We can't fix problems that we don't know about. To report a problem:

#1: Call Briess immediately. Your Customer Service Rep or Division Manager can help you gather information we need to identify and resolve the problem. Keep her or him informed about the information and evidence you will be providing.

#2: Gather information, take pictures & send us the bag. When did you notice the problem? Was the bag received damaged or was it damaged while being handled? Is the problem with the seal or did the bag tear? Any details and pictures you can provide will help. Also, send the entire bag or the part of the bag that you are experiencing problems with.

#3: Locate the bag manufacturer’s code. Bag manufacturers print codes on each bag they make. This information is usually located on the back of the bag. Refer to the pictures in the chart below for tips on where to locate bag manufacturer's codes.

#4: Locate the Briess bag number and product label. Briess prints its own number on each bag. In addition to the Briess bag number, all information from the product label should be recorded and reported to Briess as well. Refer to the pictures in the chart below for tips on where to locate the Briess bag number.

Any information you can provide will help us identify the problem and help to keep it from happening again.
