Pilot Brewing

There's only one thing we like to make more than malt. That's right. Beer. That's why the Pilot Brewery is one of our favorite facilities here at Briess...right after the Malthouse. And the Irish Road Extract Plant. And the....well, you get the picture. We really like our facilities.

Back to Pilot Brewing. Not only is it an integral part of our QC and R&D programs, but it's a service that we've been offering to breweries for decades...since the early days of the American craft brewing movement, in fact.

We lost track a long time ago of how many batches of beer we pilot brewed in that system for upstart breweries in the early days of craft brewing. It was exciting and rewarding for both our customers and us.

And while our original Pilot Brewery had served us well, we retired it several years ago when we built the Irish Road Extract Plant. Today, our modern 1bbl system is located inside the Extract Plant, adjacent the quality control lab. The automated five-vessel system allows for single-infusion, step-infusion and decoction brewing, has three fermenters and a glycol chiller system that can mimic small- to large-scale modern systems.

We know you don't always have the time or personnel or equipment to develop or tweak a recipe yourself. Or maybe you need some assistance troubleshooting a problem you're having in the brewhouse.
