On August 10th, Stillmank Brewing Co., in Green Bay, WI hosted a media event with Wisconsin State Senator Tammy Baldwin (D) to discuss The Craft Beverage Modernization and Tax Reform Act. This Act looks to cut taxes and modernize outdated regulations for craft brewers, cider makers, vintners and distillers. In addition to providing tax relief for brewers, the legislation aims to reduce compliance burdens for craft beverage producers by exempting nearly 90 percent of all industry members from complex bonding and bi-weekly tax filing requirements.
“Our breweries are vital to our state’s Made In Wisconsin economy and our heritage. Wisconsin beer makers not only brew famous lagers, they create jobs and spur investment in communities throughout the state. I am proud to support legislation that will give Wisconsin businesses the ability to continue to thrive and hire more hardworking Wisconsinites.”
Brad Stillmank, founder and brewer of Stillmank Brewing Company, is optimistic that a bill will help the business grow. He feels this bill will reduce breweries’ federal excise tax by 50-percent and in return more money can be put back into the business.
During this event, Brad showed his Wisconsin hospitality by offering a nice selection of tasty brews on tap for the visitors. Of course, Senator Baldwin declined to drink beer while “on the clock”, but several attendees did purchase beer to take home for “afterhours”. This makes me smile, and reminds me of how lucky I am to work in an industry that not only allows me to have a beer in the middle of the day, but encourages it!
Cheers,
