Last night I did something I had not done in a long time–stand behind a booth and pour beer at a beer festival for a few hours. This is Sacramento Beer Week and there have been multiple beer events across town all week. Last night was an event for about 500 people and a dozen breweries at the California Automobile Museum which also featured music by The Bathtub Gins. I was invited by Steve Swinford, Executive Director of the Northern California Brewers Guild , to pour beers from Rubicon Brewing (who he also works with) which were being served with goat cheeses from Cypress Grove Creamery. Monkey Knife Fight is Rubicon’s flagship pale ale but their double IPA HOPSAUCE is a complex big beer at 8.2% and about 100BUs, delightful. Brewmaster Scott Cramlet, a long time Briess user, has been crafting beers at Rubicon for over 20 years and I look forward to when they get their production brewery up and running as they have been running at capacity for the last 8 years!
