This stronger version of a Helles Lager showcases the European-like character of Briess Synergy Select Pilsen Malt.
Ingredients
10 lbs - Synergy Select Pilsen Malt - Single varietal base malt
0.25 oz - Magnum (13.2% AAU) - 60 minute boil
0.25 oz each - Tettnang, Herbucker, Hallertau Mittlefruh Hops (2.5, 3.0, 4.0 % AAU) - 15 minute boil
0.25 oz each - Tettnang, Herbucker, Hallertau Mittlefruh Hops (2.5, 3.0, 4.0 % AAU) - 5 minute boil
2 packs - Munich Helles Lager Yeast WLP860 - Fermenter
Directions
Mash grains in 3.0 gallons of water at 144°F for 30 minutes
Add 0.75 gallons of boiling water to increase temperature to 157°F for 30 minutes
Sparge grain with 170°F water to obtain desired pre-boil kettle volume
Bring to boil
Add 0.25 oz Magnum hops
Boil for 45 minutes
Add 15 min hops, boil 10 minutes
Add 5 min hops, boil 5 minutes
Turn heat off and cool wort to 48°F
Transfer to fermenter
Pitch two packs of WLP860 Munich Helles Lager Yeast
